FOLDING formation research

Guide:

about the study of folded structures of several scale levels into thin-layered flysch-like sediments in a Hinterland

I.         THE THEORETICAL BASEMENT

2. Hierarchic system of folded objects – (since 1997)

·Description. Hierarchic system of 7 ranks of linear folded structures was developed. The sizes and volume of layering into sedimentary cover were criteria of objects selection. There are: 1. Grains and inclusions (intra-layer structures); 2. Separate folds (1 or 2 layers); 3. Folded domains (layers package); 4. Structural cell (sedimentary cover); 5. Tectonic zones (earth crust); 6. Folded system such as Great Caucasus (lithosphere); 7. Folded-thrust belts (?). Objects of each rank have especial set of mechanisms formation (cinematic model of geometry perturbations). Common trend of study of linear folding is researching objects from smaller to larger one (from better known to lesser known) without any gaps.  Details.

·Publications. First in time publication is (Yakovlev F.L. “A Study of the Kinematic…”, 1987; PDF, N 3 in List-En). The hierarchic system was not announced but really structures of ranks 2, 3, 5 were used. First draft description is in preprint (Yakovlev F.L. “The recognition…”, 1997, text on pages 6, 8, picture on page 7; PDF-R, N 7 in List-En). First full description (in Russian, reviewed, picture included) is (Rebetsky… Yakovlev “Tectonophysics”, 2004; text on pages 127, 128, picture on page 128; PDF-R, N 10 in List-En). First information in English (without pictures) was (Yakovlev F. “Distribution of shortening…”, 2005; PDF, N 12 in List-En). The explanation and all pictures on page 153 in Russian is (Yakovlev F.L. Quantitative methods of analysis…, 2008, PDF-R, N 32 in List-En).  Some explanation in English and pictures is in the paper (Yakovlev F. L. Multirank Strain Analysis…, 2008, PDF, N 28 in List-En). The some poster contains pictures and explanation. (see download materials)
